Linux 2.1.9 Client is now available

No-IP has released an updated version of the Linux Dynamic Update Client (DUC). A potential vulnerability for buffer overflow has been discovered in the current Linux version of the client. The buffer overflow vulnerability can possibly be exploited to compromise a user’s computer for the execution of arbitrary code. Older versions of the Linux client are affected too. This vulnerability can be exploited if attacker tricks a user to connect to a fake update No-IP dynamic update server.

No-IP recommends all users running the older version of the Linux DUC 2.1.1 through 2.1.8 to upgrade to the 2.1.9 version and re-run the configuration wizard. This is done by invoking “noip2 -C” at the prompt.

The newest version is available on our website or by following this link.

Well, the beef is in the form of some recent database upgrades!!

NS3 and NS4 IP address change

In effort to expand our infastructure and provide even better service to our customers we  have changed the ip address of two of our nameservers: ns3.no-ip.com and ns4.no-ip.com.The new addresses are:

ns3.no-ip.com  69.65.5.106

ns4.no-ip.com 72.5.169.6

These changes primarily effect our No-IP Squared customers, however for any Managed DNS customers who are using vanity nameserver names this may effect you as well.
The old address will continue to provide resolution while customers migrate to the new address.  We will be disabling the old address on April 8, 2008.

This is part of our planned network upgrade at our Oakland and Chicago data centers.
